The date that almost did not happen
Here's the thing about Teo and Tori's first date: it almost did not happen.
Back in 2023, Teo had a four-day weekend and decided to ask Tori out. Tori said yes, which was a great start. The only problem was that she never really confirmed whether the day Teo suggested actually worked for her. So when that day came and Teo still had not heard anything, he assumed the date was probably not happening.
Naturally, he made other plans. And by "other plans," we mean he drove to North Georgia, visited three waterfalls, and spent the entire day hiking like he was preparing for some kind of outdoor endurance challenge.
By early evening, Teo was tired, sore, and fully ready to be done with walking for the day. That is when Tori texted him and asked if he was still down to meet.
A normal person might have said, "Maybe another day." Teo, however, had a brief conversation with himself and decided, "You only live once, and you do not get the chance to meet a cute girl every day." So he said yes.
They met at Cochran Shoals Trail, which was funny because Teo had just spent the entire day hiking and was now, somehow, going on another hike. But once they started walking and talking, all of that stopped mattering.
The conversation was easy right away. They clicked quickly, in that rare way where nothing feels forced and somehow the time just starts disappearing. Tori liked that Teo had suggested a walk instead of the usual "let's grab drinks" date. Teo liked that Tori showed up with good energy, great conversation, and just enough mystery to make him wonder if she had intentionally kept the schedule unclear.
One of the first things Teo asked her was whether she knew how to pronounce his name. Later, they found out their birthdays are only one day apart: Tori's on the 5th and Teo's on the 6th. Teo, being a natural planner, immediately started picturing future back-to-back birthday celebrations, because apparently he was already thinking ahead on date one.
And then there were Tori's hands.
Anyone who knows Tori knows she is cold pretty much all the time. It was not even that cold outside, but her hands were freezing. This gave Teo the perfect excuse to hold her hand and try to warm her up. Whether this was romance or a survival response is still unclear, but either way, it worked.
They walked all the way to the end of the trail and back. And when they got back, neither of them really wanted the date to end. So they stayed by the Chattahoochee River, kept talking, and let the evening keep going.
That night, Tori shared her hatred for birds, and Teo tried to convince her to get a passport. At the time, he had no idea she would become his favorite travel partner. Since then, they have been to Croatia, Spain, Turkey, Panama, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and many more places together.
Somewhere along the way, the fun first-date feeling turned into something deeper. Teo became the person Tori could feel completely comfortable with, the person she could tell anything to, laugh with, be herself around, and trust with the little and big parts of life. And Tori became Teo's favorite person to plan with, travel with, laugh with, and come home to.
So yes, their story started with a missed confirmation text, three waterfalls, one exhausted man agreeing to hike again, and two people who somehow knew pretty quickly that this was something special.
Now Tori gets to marry her perfect man: someone who makes her feel comfortable sharing everything, who makes ordinary days feel safe and funny, and who somehow turned a scheduling misunderstanding into a love story. And Teo gets to marry his favorite travel partner, birthday neighbor, hand-warming responsibility, and the person he cannot wait to spend forever with.
